“It must have always been in me somewhere and, though it has faded at times, it has always lingered and returned; this interest in the hunt. The evocative smell of gun-oil, metal and old wood, of powder and dogs and leather. These have held me for as long as I can remember and they hold me still.”

Forget not that Dig thinks everyone should own a Purdey, in contrast with your recent comment while wading water almost to the high-water mark under your armpits: “Anyone who would drag an H&H into this [. . . ] quagmire should have his head examined!”

You did mention that the water was up when we were planning that trip. I thought it was getting more shallow until I realized I was starting to float. Fortunately, the box of shells in my jacket pockets had me weighted to almost neutral buoyancy. That creek channel ripping along at the speed of a Class I rapid had me somewhat concerned as well. I’d like to see you pour as much water out of those Damascus tubes as I poured out of the hollow stock of my Nova. I’m thinking about putting some tins of sardines in there both for balance and for a mid-morning snack, but I can’t figure out how to keep my crackers dry.

To keep the crackers dry all YOU need to do is store them with your humor…..it is always dry……… Sorry Mike, I could not resist the temptation!
